East Texas Baptist University Tigers Win Second DIII National Championship
In the heart of Marshall, Texas, amid the verdant landscapes and bustling streets, East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) stands as a beacon of athletic excellence and spiritual growth. For 27 seasons, the Tigers’ softball team has forged an indomitable legacy, guided by a succession of four esteemed head coaches: Kent Reeves, Mike Reed, Rick McClain, and Janae Shirley. These leaders have navigated the highs and lows of collegiate athletics with unwavering determination and unyielding faith, shaping the program into a powerhouse.
In the end, the Tigers’ triumph on the diamond was about more than just winning games—it was a testament to the power of teamwork, perseverance, and faith. As they hoisted the championship trophy, they did so not only as athletes but as ambassadors of their university’s mission to build Champions for Christ. And as they celebrated their hard-earned victory, they knew that their journey was far from over. For the lessons learned on the softball field would stay with them long after the final out was recorded, shaping them into leaders ready to tackle whatever challenges lay ahead.
