Event News: Elite Eight Battle it Out to Reach 14U Final at AFCS 2 (Aug. 6, 2022)

Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass reached Sunday’s 13U national championship series.

Many of the top 14U teams in the nation went to Chino Hills, CA, this week for the Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series 2. Here are some of Saturday’s highlights (All Rankings Extra Elite Eighty Club Rankings):

#6 Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass and #3 Athletics Mercado 2025-Tidd won all of their Elite Eight games and will play in Sunday’s 14U national championship series:

2025 3B Sinalei Talataina went 1 for 3 with a three-run homer, 2025 SS Thimir Bracamontes wnet 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, 2026 OF Victoria Guzman went 1 for 2 with three runs and two RBIs and 2025 P Charley Duran and 2026 P Mia Valbuena combined on the shutout as #3 Athletics Mercado 2025-Tidd took care of #77 Texas Glory Naudin, 13-0, in the second round. …

2025 2B Caigan Crabtree delivered a two-out walk-off double in the bottom of the 8th to give #6 Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass a 6-5 ITB win over #65 OC Batbusters-Hudson/Stern in the second round. 2025 3B Meiko Dominguez went 3 for 4 with three runs and an RBI, Crabtree went 3 for 5 with a run and an RBI, 2025 1B Ava Renteria went 2 for 5 with a run and 2025 LF Zoe Greenwood went 2 for 4 with a run for the Bombers. …

Renteria went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI, Crabtree went 2 for 2 with an RBI, 2026 SS Brooklyn Gidley went 2 for 4 with a run and 2025 3B/1B Laila Nobles went 2 for 2 with a run as #6 Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass defeated #77 Texas Glory Naudin, 4-2, in the third round to advance to the national championship series.

“This is one of the biggest moments of their careers,” Bombers coach Kristi Malpass said. “Some never get a chance to compete in a national championship. This is a big moment they have been preparing and working for all season. One of the most talented 14U teams I have coached. It’s exciting to have watch them compete all week at the highest level and overcoming what they did by losing only their third game of the summer and coming back through the loser’s bracket and double dipping the undefeated team and making it all the way to the national championship series.” …

#3 Athletic Mercado 2025-Tidd deafeated OC Batbusters-Gonzalez/Tamura for the second time in a day, this time, 13-6, in the third round to advance to the national championship series. The Athletics pounded out 14 hits and came back from a 6-2 deficit. 2025 1B Jaelyn Toledo went 3 for 4 with two runs, 2026 MIF Ki’ele Ho-Ching went 2 for 5 with a run and four RBIs, Talataina went 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI and Guzman and 2025 C Savannah Lira both went 2 for 4 with a run and two RBIs for the Athletics.

“Told the girls it was a six inning game from there and we need to score every inning and we will be good,” Athletics coach Brian Tidd said of his team’s comeback. “We scored 13 runs in the two previous games against really good teams and knew we could come back. The biggest success for us was Charley Duran shutting them down from 2nd through 7th inning without allowing a run. This allowed us to chip away and gave us some confidence to keep swinging it.” …
