A pinnacle event for USA Softball’s Junior Olympic play, participating teams were invited based off a resume reviewed by a committee of coaches to ensure that many top teams in the nation would be taking the field at the 2020 JO Cup. The 14-Under division includes a total of 23 competing teams with 28 teams in 16-Under and 27 teams in the 18-Under division.
Pool play begins today (Sunday, July 26) with double-elimination bracket play beginning on Tuesday and continuing through Thursday, followed with Championship play on Friday, July 31.
Created in 2015, the USA Softball JO Cup serves as an opportunity for evaluation by the USA Softball coaching staff and the Women’s National Team Selection Committee. Since its inaugural year, the JO Cup has grown to include three age groups and has crowned 11 champions in its five years.
Tyger River Park is Spartanburg County’s premier park, containing 13 youth baseball/softball fields, a clubhouse, and a large playground. After undergoing multiple enhancements in 2014, the facility now also includes a perimeter exercise trail, picnic shelters, new restrooms, a splash pad, disc golf and other amenities.
Tyger River Park is known to attract multiple elite youth sports tournaments throughout the year, including the 2019 USA Softball Junior Olympic Cup and 2018 USA Softball Girls’ Class A 12-Under National Championship, while also being named the 2015 USA Softball Complex of the Year.
