The Scenic City Summer Showcase—one of several top events run by Jeremy Higdon and his Connect Sports company—has come a long way from when it first began 15 years ago.
Back in 2007, when George W. Bush was president and gasoline was $2.78 per gallon, the event saw 50 teams in the Summer and 40 teams in the Fall.
Today, a decade and a half later, Higdon’s summer stop will see 330 teams participate from June 23-26, 2022, on 75 fields in a 30-mile radius of Chattanooga.
And do the college coaches come out to see the top teams and players battle in the 6-game guaranteed format?
Do they ever!
Last Summer, more than 300 college coaches attended the event considered a top 14U, 16U and 18U tournament in the Eastern part of the country and, this June, more than 400 college coaches are expected from all over the nation and also Canada, including Power 5 programs and other DI, DII, DIII, NAIA and Junior College schools.
There is something for everyone and it’s not just competitive games being played.
“Scenic City has become much more than just a tournament,” Higdon explains. “This Summer will also feature all-star games, an OnDeck Camp, college coach camps, All Tournament teams done by Athletes Go Live and a digital recruiting platform by the NCSA.”
Sunday action on June 26, 2022 will culminate with championship play for the Pool winners. The 14U and 16U age divisions will compete in the Chatanooga and North Georgia areas while 18U will play in Dalton, Georgia.
The Event Director says he’s excited about this year’s events for many reasons and not all have to do with what happens between the lines.
“We have some of the best facilities in the country,” Higdon believes. “We also pride ourselves on our extensive team research and team placement to ensure that our participants play the most competitive games possible.”
“And, off the field, Chattanooga is one of the top outdoor tourism destinations in the entire country with mountains, the Tennessee River, numerous lakes, whitewater rafting, world class aquarium, tons of locally owned restaurants, breweries, bars, etc.”
