Event Recap: Top 10U, 12U and 14U Teams Compete at Beverly Bandits Power 80 (April 3, 2022)

Many of the top 10U, 12U and 14U players and teams from around the country converged on Elizabethtown, KY, for the Beverly Bandits Power 80 Tournament this weekend.

The Beverly Bandits had three teams in different age divisions reach the finals.

So Cal Athletics 08-Kim/Adame traveled from Orange County, CA, to Kentucky and defeated Beverly Bandits Futures 08-Bailey, 5-4, in the 14U Platinum final to capture the title at the Beverly Bandits Power 80 on Sunday in Elizabethtown, KY.

RF Jocelyn Alatorre, the #9 hitter, delivered a walk-off hit in the bottom of the sixth to give the So Cal A’s the victory.

“The championship was one of the best games I’ve ever been a part both as a player and coach,” So Cal A’s coach James Kim said. “The Beverly Bandits are as good as advertised, but we never backed down. Their starting pitcher is something special, but we kept battling and managed to put ourselves in positions where we were able to capitalize on some timely hitting and a little bit of luck. We won it on a walk-off base hit from our right fielder and #9 hitter (Jocelyn Alatorre), who batted .412 for the weekend.”

2026 C/SS Ella Kim gave the So Cal A’s its first lead with a two-run triple. 2027 3B Ivy Burnham went 2 for 3, 2026 LF Logan Bester had an RBI single and 2026 P Lili Escobar pitched a six-inning complete game.

2026 1B Savanah Duncan, batted .474 with a .500 OBP, 2026 1B/OF Aubrey McLaughlin batted .400 with a 1.179 OPS and 2026 P/1B Rylie Skibbe pitched 5 games with a 0.86 ERA, 0 .812 WHIP and 21 Ks in 16 innings for the tournament to lead the So Cal A’s.

Iowa Premier Black withstood a bottom-of-the-seventh inning rally to beat Beverly Bandits Premier 09-Mercurio, 3-2, in the 12U Premier final at the Beverly Bandits Power 80.

2027 P/1B Taryn Stoner was dominant for Iowa Premier all weekend and she threw the final four bracket games for Iowa Premier. The left-hander, who is considered one of the best in the Midwest, struck out 32 in four pitching appearances.

Iowa Premier was paced by two speedy lefties on offense — 2027 2B/OF/RHP Kate Sandvick and 2027 C JLee Van Driel, who has seven hits apiece for the weekend. 2027 CF Aliayah Shade and Sandvick hit a team-high .360 on the weekend and 2027 SS Isabelle Jackson led the team in hits (eight) and drove in seven runs

Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier 2028-Brashears beat EC Bullets 2010-Vallery, 4-2, in the 12U Platinum final.

“I am proud of the girls and the grit they showed this weekend,” Thunderbolts coach Jacob Brashears said. “These young ladies grew as a team. On the weekend, they scored 34 and gave up 7 runs. The team-oriented weekend led to a good result and 7 – 0 record.”

The Bolts’ three pitchers — Caylei Jones, Rylee Swilley, and Eden Wilson — combined for 39 strikeouts on the weekend, and the defense had their backs all weekend.

Beverly Bandits Premier 2011-George defeated Atlanta Vipers 2011-Cleghorn, 4-2, to win the 10U Premier final

Bandits coach TJ George said his pair of pitchers — 2029 P Maya Melendez and 2029 P Jaycee McCarter — were “phenomanel all weekend.” They combined for 58 strikeouts in seven games.

2029 1B Hannah Louis, 2029 CF Aubree Minor and 2029 SS Brooke White all batted over .500 for the weekend for the Bandits, who went 6-1, and batted .387 with 68 hits and 41 runs as a team.

“I think they battled an persevered in situations they need to, they executed in situations,” George said, “an they kept fighting all the way.”
