Umpires rarely get noticed… unless they’re doing something wrong (or perceived by the unhappy side as doing such)!
But here at Extra Inning Softball, we love the game-callers on the field—and one reason we love this pic is the demonstration of a simple act of kindness where one “blue” is helping out the other—a nice gesture which has a twist to it that’s pretty cool!
Photographer Holly Anthony shot the image and said, “I thought it was a great shot and when I showed it to one of the ladies (umps), she was so touched.”
And why? Continued Holly, “Because they are mother and daughter!”
Yes, it’s true—two generations of umpires calling one game! The daughter, Chasity Jones, is tying the shoes of her mom, Allegra White in this photo which was taken Saturday, June 20, 2020 in Lake Jackson, Texas during the Texas Cup. Both are from the Lake Jackson area and Mom has been umpiring for three years and her daughter for two, although they don’t always umpire together.
The break in the action occurred during a game between Texas Bombers STX 16U Bryant and Sugar Land Illusions Gold 16U Dobson which ended in a tie 2-2. The catcher at the bottom left is Bombers #66 Sadona Webb.
