Our Extra Inning Softball National Club Player & National Club Team of the Week series moved into Week 8 for the 2020 summer season with today’s edition.
The Club Player/Team of the Week features great individual and team accomplishments from the past weekend along with those who were Runners-Up with similarly strong performances.
This week’s honorees are from games and tournaments in the week of Monday, July 27 through Sunday August 2, 2020 and includes performances at Nationals across the U.S.!

National Club Player of the Week:
C/IF Abygail Vieira (OC Batbusters – Lastrapes)
Abygail Vieira, the 2021 catcher/first baseman for OC Batbusters – Lastrapes, hasn’t had much of a chance to play this summer, but at the Southwest Showcase in Spanish Fork, Utah last Thursday through Saturday she finally was able to take the field.
She didn’t disappoint.
In what is likely her last weekend playing for Coach Dave Lastrapes Batbuster team before she moves up to Mike Stith’s OC Batbusters 18U Gold team, Aby hit .615 with a .643 on-base percentage, a 1.076 slugging percentage and one home run, four doubles, 6 RBIs, a walk and just one strikeout.
The Clemson commit was ranked in the 2021 Extra Elite 100 and her father, Glenn, told Extra Inning Softball: “Of course we are all concerned that with the lack of at bats and play, how the girls would be affected. It appears that Aby has remained sharp and it will be interesting watching how she does going into her senior year. I expect big things as she works very hard, and it seems the bigger the moment, the better she does.”

Runners-Up / National Player of the Week
* Grace Jones, a 2024 pitcher/utility player was a beast in the circle and at the plate as she led the Mojo Ross 2024 team to the USA Softball 14U JO Cup championship. Grace pitched 34 innings, faced 140 batters, struck out 14 and only surrendered 5 earned runs all week. At the plate she went 11-for-31 (. 355 average) had a home run along with 10 RBIs.
* Mackenzie Nolan, a 2023 shortstop/third baseman with the Texas Bombers National – Owens team, had an explosive week hitting third in the lineup at the Lonestar Showcase in College Station, Texas as her Bombers team went 5-0 and she hit 10-for-11 (.909) with three doubles, a triple, two walks and 9 RBIs in five games before the event was cut short due to bad weather.
* Emily Capobianco, a 2022 catcher/DH for OC Batbusters – Lastrapes out of Mission Viejo, California, had a strong week at the Southwest Showcase in Spanish Fork, Utah. She hit .545 with a .583 on-base percentage and a .909 slugging percentage. Emily had 6 RBIs in 12 plate appearances as well.

Each week during the summer, Extra Inning Softball will recognize a National Club Player & Team of the Week.
Those honored will typically be announced on Tuesdays. The cutoff for submitting the nominations for Player & Team of the Week will be Mondays at 9 pm EST/6 pm PST.
* Individually, we’re looking for standouts who excelled in the circle, at the plate or in the field so be sure to nominate your favorite performance(s) by submitting the following:
- Player Name
- Grad Year (example: Class of 2021 or Incoming Senior)
- Position(s)
- Club team name with city/state
- Stats for the week (be as detailed as possible!)
- Up-to-date season stats if possible
- Recruiting information if applicable
- Any interesting background on the player
- Action and/or head shots
- If possible, contact info if we’d like more info or quotes
* Teams to be considered should include info such as record, key wins, standout performances and more for the week.
