Extra Inning Softball’s National Club Player & National Club Team of the Week – June 29, 2021

Our Extra Inning Softball National Club Player & National Club Team of the Week continues for Week 3 of the 2021 summer season with today’s edition.

The Club Player/Team of the Week features great individual and team accomplishments from the past weekend along with those who were Runners-Up with similarly strong performances.

This week’s honorees are from games and tournaments in the week of Monday, June 21 through Sunday June 27, 2021.

National Club Player of the Week:
P Samantha Landry (Hotshots Premier 18U – Dumezich)

* Samantha Landry, the outstanding 2021 pitcher and Louisiana commit for Mel Dumezich’s 18U Hotshots Premier team, showed again why she’s a Top 5 player in her class.

At Top Club National Championships, she went 4-1 with 30 K’s in 27 innings and had a 1.03 ERA while limiting some of the top 18U teams in the nation to just a .210 batting average.

Sam only gave up four earned runs in her run at the OKC talent-laden tournament and led the Hotshots to wins over top 18U squads such as Bombers Gold- Scott Smith 6-1; Nebraska Gold 1-0; Corona Angels- Tyson 6-1 and Wichita Mustangs 7-4.

Last Friday, Sam pitched 13 innings and gave up no earned runs against Nebraska Gold and the Birmingham Bolts (a loss deep in the bracket play).

Runners-Up / National Player of the Week

* Kelsey Nader, a 2022 OF with Finesse 16U – Dreher/Lesko out of Canton, Michigan, had a fantastic week at the JO Cup last week going 19-for-30 (.633) with a home run and three doubles.

“Pretty good for a slapper!” commented Dan Bressler of the Finesse organization. “Kelsey mixed up things very well between bunting, slapping and swinging away and kept defenses on their heels all week.”

The Northwestern commit went 4-for-4 twice and in three other games had three hits.

For the week she scored 10 runs and had eight RBIs from the 2-spot in the lineup.

For the summer season, which just began for the club program as the high school season stretched into mid-June, Kelsey has a .629 batting average with 11 RBIs, 13 runs scored and has 12 putouts in 10 games.

* Julie Kelley, a 2024 P/1B for the Lady Gators – Jackson team out of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, played in 12 games over seven consecutive days between the JO Cup and Scenic City Showcase.

She pitched in eight of 12 contests worked 32.2 Inninsgs and had 27 K’s and a 2.57 ERA while also batting .304 with three home runs and five RBIs.

For the club season, Julie has 66 K’s in 52.1 innings with a 2.14 ERA and is only allowing opposing batters a .182 batting average. She recently attended the Florida State All-Skills Camp and the Florida Pitching & Hitting Clinics and will also be hitting the South Carolina camp and the NFCA Excel Camp at Atlanta Legacy.

* Mackenzie Borkovich, a 2022 pitcher with Team Pennsylvania- Sroka pitched in 10 games and a total of 33.1 innings giving up just five earned runs while striking out 36 and walking only two.

For the club season she is 6-1 with 72 K’s in 55 innings and has a 0.76 ERA and just four waks allowed.

Mackenzie is a Tae Kwon Do blackbelt as well.

Those honored will typically be announced on Tuesdays or Wednesday. The cutoff for submitting the nominations for National Club Player & Team of the Week will be Mondays at 9 pm EST/6 pm PST.

* Individually, we’re looking for standouts who excelled in the circle, at the plate or in the field so be sure to nominate your favorite performance(s) by submitting the following:
