Kentucky-committed Tayven Stephenson established herself as one of the top 2023 pitchers in the nation after leading Team NC-Eaton to the TC/USA 14U national title in 2019.
Stephenson, #6 is the 2023 Extra Elite 100, has reunited with some former teammates to try to turn Louisville Lady Sluggers-Murphy into a national title contender in the 16U division this summer.
Marshall-committed 2021 1B/OF Rielly Lucas was always impressed by Stephenson when they played together as 12-year-olds and she is extremely happy to have her on the Lady Sluggers.
“She was a beast,” said Lucas, #247 in the Class of 2021. “Her work ethic has been like none other. She had goals set and she knew how to accomplish them. This past fall we became teammates again for Louisville Lady Sluggers 16U-Murphy. I can’t wait to see what this summer brings. She solidifies a solid pitching crew, but also brings power to an already stacked lineup. Tayven doesn’t look the part of a ‘stud pitcher.’ Her small stature is extra deceiving. Yeah, she has speed but her ball moves.”
“Tayven is all business on the field,” Lucas continues. “She doesn’t let her emotions show ups or down. Most importantly she is a great teammate. Tayven can change the dynamics in the dugout. She pushes me to be positive and keep my confidence and, although I love being her teammate, Tayven and I will be rivals this high school season. I can’t wait to face her on the field. I love a good competition!”
Stephenson’s poise and composure is something 2022 1B/UT Hailea Skeens has always admired.
“Tayven and I have played together since we were around 10 years old,” Skeens said. “She has always been ready to show up and put the work in and do whatever it takes to be successful. As a teammate, I have always been able to rely on her on and off the field. Tayven’s such an amazing player because she’s always been able to withhold her emotions on the mound and at the plate. She’s the kind of player you can depend on to show up and give everything she’s got no matter how successful she has been through the day or weekend. Tayven has always been about hard work and she has always persevered. She is one of the most amazing people I know and is always willing to help anyone she can. She’s not just an amazing player, but also a great person.”
