Fathers Who Lead with Love and Faith

“A righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.” – Proverbs 20:7

This Father’s Day, Extra Inning Softball pauses to celebrate the men who shape our lives with quiet strength, faithful leadership, and sacrificial love—both in our homes and in the dugout.

In softball, a father’s presence might look like early morning drives to tournaments, hours spent catching in the yard, or a steady voice reminding us to keep our heads up after a tough game. But beyond the field, the best fathers teach us to compete with heart, to treat others with respect, and to rely on something greater than ourselves.

As believers, we are reminded of the ultimate Father—our God in Heaven—whose love is unfailing and whose guidance is perfect.

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1).

Whether we’re winning championships or walking through seasons of struggle, He remains our constant, our coach through life’s toughest innings.

I extend thanks for the men who have stepped in to fill fatherly roles—coaches, uncles, mentors, and grandfathers—who show us what it means to lead with integrity, discipline, and grace. Their influence goes far beyond wins and losses. They help mold our character and remind us that faith, not fame, is our foundation.

A Few Lessons My Father Has Taught Me:

• If you’re wondering if something is right or wrong, it’s probably wrong. Err on the side of caution.

• Do the right thing, no matter how hard it is.

• Stand up for what you believe. You might be the only one brave enough to speak the truth, but others will listen.

• Count to ten before you hit the panic button.

• Don’t forget to set your alarm.

• “You’re already prepared, kiddo. Don’t kid yourself.”

One of the things I love most about my dad, David Holland, is that he loves God and he loves my mom, Carol Holland. He is also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. As you’ll see from some of the photos we’ve shared, his humor and personality light up a room.

There’s another man in my life who has made a lasting impression—my fiancé, Clarence Taylor. He is compassionate, wise, humble, selfless, and extremely loving. Clarence is not only a devoted father to his two daughters, but he genuinely cares about each one of our children. He came into my life unexpectedly and has taught me what it means to be loved unconditionally. He is emotionally and intellectually mature, fun to be with, and—if I may say so—very good looking.

Lastly, and most importantly, I’m thankful for God—our Father in Heaven—who has always extended His hand toward me. He is my rock, my lifeline, and the reason I press forward, especially when times are hard. Not everyone has a good relationship with their earthly father, but it’s comforting to know we all share a loving Father in Heaven. His love is perfect, and His presence is constant.

On behalf of our staff here at Extra Inning Softball, we thank all the fathers and father figures in the softball community: your example lives on in every athlete you’ve uplifted, every lesson you’ve taught, and every prayer you’ve whispered from the stands. Today, we honor you. May your lives continue to reflect the love of our Heavenly Father—the One who never misses a moment.
