
Florida Gulf Coast League (FGCL) Softball has announced it will be hosting the Canadian Olympic Team in Sarasota, July 3 and 4, for two doubleheaders with FGCL teams.
“The opportunity to play games against the FGCL teams provides us with quality competition, while providing these talented young women playing in the league with the unique experience of competing against some of the top women softball players in the world,” said Mark Smith, High Performance Director/Head Coach Canadian Women’s National Team (WNT).

Softball Canada is a not-for-profit National Sport Organization based out of Ottawa, Ontario.

“It’s a great honor to host Softball Canada before they compete in the Olympics this year,” stated Ryan Moore, FGCL executive director. “The FGCL is completely committed to the softball player and facilitating opportunities like this. We couldn’t be more excited for our players to have the opportunity to play against the amazing members of the Canadian National Team.”
Game times will be available at a later date.
Softball has the prestige of being the first Olympic competition of the Tokyo Games, when Australian and Japan meet in Fukushima on 21 July, followed later that day by Italy versus the United States and Mexico taking on Canada.
This first of six days of competition begins two days–Wednesday, July 21, 2021–before the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony is held on Friday, July 23. The softball Gold Medal match will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2021.
