Halloween Contest: Pfeiffer University Softball Players’ Painted Pumpkins… You Pick the Best!

Pfeiffer University softball players got creative and artistic with their Halloween pumpkins… and we’re having a contest to honor the one you like best!

Pfeiffer University’s softball team had quite the run in 2019 as the Div. III school finished 36-7 and won the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship.

Vada Blue Sherrill, who earned 1st Team All-American honors this year as a senior.

All-American shortstop Vada Blue Sherrill, who rewrote the Pfeiffer record-book and is the daughter of head coach Monte Sherrill, has graduated and is now an assistant coach for the Falcons (and just this week was named as the first recipient of the Geri Ann Glasco Memorial Scholarship).

She has graduated, but the team has a lot of talent coming back… and not just on the field.

Last Wednesday night, the 2020 Falcon player got together and, divided into six groups of four, had a Halloween contest to see who could paint pumpkins in the most creative way.

Below are the six finished pumpkins—ironically two of them were of one-eyed Mike Wazowski from Monsters, Inc.—and we’re going to make this a contest.

We’re going to have a vote-off to let YOU, the softball community, decide which pumpkin is the best overall… here are the choices:

Pick them according to the following # and/or name (from top left clockwise):

  1. Popcorn
  2. Mike Wazowski (no arms or legs)
  3. Pumpkin Spice
  4. Pfeiffer Coach Monte Sherrill
  5. Dubble Bubble
  6. Mike Wazowski (as Monte Sherrill)
The backside of pumpkin #4, the Monte Sherrill “so real it’s scary” pumpkin.

Kudos to the players for their amazing creativity and great artwork as well as the subtle points, such as #6 (Mike Wazowski/Coach Sherrill) having a business card and the Falcons’ lineup in hand.

However, if there’s a tie involving #4–the dead-on painting of Coach Sherrill in uniform–we may be forced to give extra-credit to this team of Rembrandts and Van Goghs who even did the back view of their coach (see the disturbing image to the right).

Coach Sherrill, however, did issue a protest saying:

“I told them that was not a softball coach, that was a plumber.”

However, we dismissed the protest because, really, how often does a coach get to see his backside and really know what the rest of us have to endure?

Deadline to submit votes is Wednesday at 5 pm EST / 2 pm PST.

Email your vote to: brentt.eads@extrainningsoftball.com.

We will announce the winning team this Thursday morning, Halloween Day.
