Press Release: The University of Houston Softball Welcomes Maddy Hinckley to Program
HOUSTON – Ten-year-old Maddy Hinckley joined the University of Houston Softball Team after signing her letter of intent inside the Athletic-Alumni Center on Thursday evening.
Maddy signed her letter alongside her parents, Tom and Brandi, as well as her sisters, Addison and Violet.
A native of Friendswood, Texas, Maddy was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in the summer of 2023. Ewing’s Sarcoma is a rare bone or soft tissue cancer that affects children and young adults. While Maddy was able to ring her end of chemo bell in June 2024, she is now starting additional treatment for metastasis.
Maddy joined Houston through the school’s partnership with Team IMPACT. Houston Athletics has a long-time partnership with Team IMPACT, matching children with its Men’s Basketball, Soccer, Football, Volleyball, Track and Field and Swimming & Diving Teams.
“We are very excited to add Maddy and her family to ours,” Assistant Coach Hope Trautwein said. “She has been such an inspiration to our players and we can’t wait to show her what being a Cougar is all about!”
Maddy enjoys arts and crafts, softball, gymnastics and volleyball. Her favorite restaurant is Fogo De Chão and she also loves crab.
“We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with Team IMPACT and the University of Houston,” Maddy’s mom, Brandi, said. “We’re looking forward to being a part of the team. Go Coogs!”
