I Committed: Cal Poly SLO-Bound 2024 Outfielder Madeline Bermudez on “Why Playing For Team Mexico Means So Much to Me”

Madeline “Maddy” Bermudez committed to Cal Poly SLO in December after a huge Fall ’22 campaign for the LTG Lions 16U team.

We love sharing the great news of when a fastpitch player finds her future home and commits to her school of choice!

If you or someone you know has finalized her college decision, share it with us on our I Committed form which is located at the top of the home page (or just click HERE!)

Today, we spotlight a West Coast talent, Madeline “Maddy” Bermudez, who was ranked #79 in the 2024 Extra Elite 100, and how a huge Fall 2022 season led to her getting a lot of looks before she decided to stay closer to home.

Maddy also shares some fun info about herself including why playing for Team Mexico in the Triple Crown International Challenge means so much to her…

First, tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them?

I joined LTG Lions 2024 team in the fall of 2021. Coach Cat Carrisosa is a well-respected coach in our area, and is highly regarded by former players, so I wanted to play for her.

Coach Jim Carda’s practices have high emphasis on technique, and he guides us on the college recruiting process. The organization is big on college preparation from recruiting to academics. My team is a great group of girls who have each other’s backs and can keep you laughing at the same time.

Maddy says she loves playing for the LTG Lions because of the coaching and comraderie.
What does being a member of Team Mexico for the Triple Crown International Challenge mean to you?

It was a great honor to be chosen to represent Mexico at the TCS International Challenge out of 600 applicants.

Growing up in a small farming town of Soledad, California, I learned to be proud of my Mexican heritage, and show it with hard work and dedication in everything I do.

What means the most to me is that my grandparents who came from Cerrito Colorado, Michoacan, Mexico, and couldn’t play sports due to them working in the fields their entire lives… now they will have an opportunity to watch me play while representing Mexico.

Tell us about your being part of the All-Academic Team for the All-Academic Games produced by Triple Crown Zoom Into June?

The All-Academic Games are about finding and selecting players who have the desire and academic standing to apply at an Ivy League or high academic college or university. Coaches from high academic schools have requested these games and plan on recruiting from them.

These are the requirements for 2024 grads, along with a three-question application:

  1. Cumulative GPA (on an unweighted 4.0 scale) = 4.0 or…
  2. Class rank is in the top 8%.
Do you have a secret talent/skill (doesn’t have to be sports-related)?

I enjoy being around dogs, so my family rescued a two-year-old basset hound (“Toby”) from the SPCA. I ended up training him to do tricks and to swim.

What’s your most memorable softball story?

My most memorable softball story is helping my 12U travel ball team win a Premiere berth to PGF Nationals in a Las Vegas Qualifier.

After losing our first game in bracket play on Saturday, we were able to win five in a row Sunday in hot weather.
