Marley Escobar has committed to Chico State University and will play shortstop for the Wildcats.
Marley Escobar, a shortstop and utility player for Hype Fastpitch 18U Watson, announced her commitment to Chico State University in Chico, California on September 12th following an in-person official visit of the campus.
“I’ve been playing softball for 13 years now,” commented Marley. “I’ve always had a dream to play in college and I finally achieved it!”
Marley is a 4.0 Honor Roll student at Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove, California. She has received the Academic Excellence Award and was also named to the Principal’s list, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in all aspects of her life.
Marley posed with future school’s sign after committing earlier this month.
“She’s worked her tail off to get where she’s going,” said her club coach, Mark Watson. “She’s had a number of schools tell her ‘no’ along the way and she just continued to grind. We are very excited for her commitment and to watch her play at the next level.”
She has played for Hype Fastpitch for a year now and will continue with the team throughout the rest of her club career. This fall, Marley is excited to compete at Surf City’s October Showcase, as well as continue to develop in preparation for her first fall season with the Wildcats.
When asked why she chose Chico State, Marley shared the following:
“I loved the nature of the campus, it is beautiful! The girls on the team were so welcoming and I felt like I belonged and would fit in well. My sister also goes to Chico State and I want to enjoy this experience with my built-in best friend!”
Marley plans to study education at Chico State University and will wear #9 for the Wildcats.
