I Committed: Mia Harper’s Promising Future at Bossier Parish

Mia Harper will pitch and wear #19 for Bossier Parish Community College next fall.

Mia Harper, a pitcher for the Bombers Fastpitch—Mooneyham from Lufkin, Texas, has decided to continue her education and softball career at Bossier Parish Community College in the fall of next year.

The student-athlete began playing softball when she was eight years old, but didn’t begin start training as a pitcher until she was eleven, when her little league team was short someone in the circle. Knowing that Mia had been teaching herself to pitch by watching Youtube videos, she was given a chance on the mound and has not left the circle since!

“Like most young girls just starting out, I wanted so badly to be a pitcher,” shared Mia. “So, I decided to teach myself!”

From little league, Mia eventually joined the Lufkin Middle School softball team and competed with the program each year, knowing that each day of work she put in meant she was closer to getting on the “big field,” which was where the high school varsity team played.

After years of hard work, Mia made varsity her freshman year and has been an all-star for the Lufkin High School Panthers since, earning All-District accolades multiple times.

“These awards mean the world to me because they reflect how hard I’ve worked to get here,” commented Mia. “Ashley Bryant, my Lufkin coach once told me to continue working hard for what I want and to do it with a positive mindset, and I’ve never forgotten this.”

When Mia’s junior year arrived, she tried out for a team in Houston and made it—she was officially part of the talented Texas Bombers organization.

“That summer, we played a lot of softball. Several college coaches approached me about the possibility of playing at the next level, and informed me what it took to become a collegiate athlete,” recalls Mia. “This is what I had worked so hard for. I not only wanted to play in college, I wanted to do whatever it took for me to succeed in college.”

Mia first began to pitch by teaching herself how to on Youtube.

In August 2023, Mia began communicating with Bossier Parish Community College, located in Bossier City, Louisiana and visited the college in September.

“I had visited other colleges and universities but never had the feeling of ‘this is where I am supposed to be’ like I did on that visit, with those coaches. I loved the team environment and the worth ethic of all of the girls there, and I cannot wait to begin this journey!”

Rob Mooneyham, who coaches the Bombers, shared that since Mia joined the program last fall, she has proven herself to be a force on the mound, and regrets that she didn’t join the team sooner.

“Bossier Parish got them a great one in Mia,” shared the coach. “She is a stud player who spins the ball crazy well and has great power in her bat as well. She is one of the most committed players I’ve come across in all my years of coaching. She drives tow hours during the school week just for a two hour practice with her team—I told her she doesn’t need to, but she insists.”

On September 6th, Mia accepted an offer from Head Coach Amanda Nordberg while on a visit to the campus.

“Mostly, I would like to thank my dad, Trey Moore, for everything he has done to help me. From daily practices, pep talks that I didn’t want to hear but needed to—he is my hero and I want him to know that I will always be grateful that he never minded ‘sitting on the bucket.’”

She will graduate from Lufkin High School in the spring of 2024 and join the Bossier Parish Cavaliers in the fall and plans to study general sciences and wear #19.
