Inside Pitch: 2023 SS Ashley Wolfe Makes Dynamic Recruiting Video as Sept. 1 Contact Period Approaches  

You can imagine that most every Class of 2023 softball prospect is getting apprehensive as the Sept. 1 contact period begins in less than two weeks, kicking off the time when college coaches can reach out and begin the recruiting process in earnest.

One of those who is in that situation is Ashley Wolfe, a shortstop from Green Bay, Wisconsin who plays for St. Louis Chaos 18U – Alvarado and has distinguished herself as an Extra Inning Softball 1st Team High School All-Americans – Infielders and also as a member of the 2023 Extra Elite 100.

Ashley also wrote a beautiful blog earlier this year where she discussed how, for her 16^th birthday, what she most wanted was for her mom to beat cervical cancer.

Sept 1^st is coming up fast and I’ve been getting excited and nervous at the same time; I have been waiting for this time to come ever since I discovered my love of this game!

What I’ve done to prepare has been years of “getting myself out there” by creating Facebook, Twitter, and SportsRecruits pages. I’ve also created an info flyer on cardstock to hand out to coaches at the camps I attend.

Another thing I’ve been doing is documenting in a journal every contact with a coach I’ve had: mailings, emails on Sports Recruits, interest from a coach that my club coach lets me know about, or a camp I’ve attended. This way I can research the school, the program, and see if it goes on my list as a potential good fit.

Finally, I created a recruiting video—I didn’t want to use a skills video because coaches know if you can play—so I wanted to create a video of “who I am as a person” and also “what softball means to me.” I believe that’s what coaches have the hardest time finding out about somebody and I feel it’s important to tell a story about who you are.

Fortunately, I’ve been getting a lot of interest from Power 5 schools and mid-majors–I’m excited about what the near future holds!

I’m going to enjoy this process and—going back to when I first started playing, to my club teams, trainers, coaches, friends, and family—I’m grateful and appreciative in how they’ve all helped me tremendously in getting to where I am today.
