Mollie Furr’s Mission to Inspire
For many young athletes, sports are more than just a game—they are a source of growth, confidence, and lifelong friendships. Few understand this better than Mollie Furr, a former Birmingham Southern College softball player who is now continuing her journey at Huntingdon College. Mollie remains deeply committed to the game and is using her platform to ensure that more young girls have the opportunity to play the sport they love.
A New Chapter After Birmingham Southern’s Closure
Mollie’s journey took an unexpected turn in May 2024, when Birmingham Southern College—a nearly 170-year-old institution—announced its closure, leaving hundreds of students and athletes without a place to continue their education and athletic careers. Like many of her teammates, Mollie was forced to find a new school to call home, ultimately transferring to Huntingdon College. While her time on the field has come to an end, her love for the game and her desire to give back to the next generation of players remains stronger than ever.
Mollie’s passion for softball runs in the family—her sister, Maggie Furr, is continuing the tradition, playing softball at Brenau University. Now, Mollie is using her platform to ensure that young girls who dream of playing softball never have to walk away from the sport due to financial barriers.

Breaking Barriers & Giving Back
Through her participation in the Miss Huntingdon Pageant, a scholarship competition for Huntingdon College students, Mollie is raising money to support young female athletes who need financial assistance to play the sport they love. Her efforts will help cover costs like fees, equipment, and other essential expenses for girls who might not otherwise have the opportunity to play.
“Playing softball has always been a huge part of my life and has shaped me into who I am today,” Mollie shared. “I want to provide girls the opportunity to make their dreams come true. I truly want these young ladies to have that same experience I was so blessed to have.”
Her father, Willie Furr, echoes her passion, emphasizing the impact that softball has had on their family:
“Softball has been a major part of our lives for as long as I can remember. We have been blessed to have learned from some of the best coaches around! High school softball and travel ball has allowed our family to make so many lifelong connections and taught us valuable life lessons.
In reflection, we know there are so many talented girls who love the game but face social-economic barriers limiting their opportunities. Our goal is to make high school and travel ball accessible to every girl who has a passion for the sport. Growing the game we have loved for so many years and providing the necessary tools and resources is the ultimate goal.”

How You Can Help
Mollie is accepting donations through Venmo (@mollie_furr) until March 7th. Every dollar raised will go into a collective fund with the other Miss Huntingdon contestants’ philanthropy efforts. The contestant who raises the most funds will be named Miss Philanthropic and awarded all the money from the pot, which Mollie will use to support young female athletes in need.
Her mission is simple yet powerful: to break financial barriers, uplift young girls, and grow the game that has given so much to her.
To support Mollie’s cause, donate via Venmo: @mollie_furr before March 7th. Every contribution brings another young athlete closer to the field, the friendships, and the opportunities that come with the game of softball.
