Three weeks into the softball season and storylines are starting to emerge as teams look to build early momentum to carry them through a long season and many of those storylines are being developed from non-Power 5 schools.
Week one of the season was dominated by the pitchers. Brianna Jones of Southern Illinois threw a perfect game, Kayla Beaver threw a no-hitter in her Alabama debut and Boston University’s Kasey Ricard and Allison Boaz each threw a no-hitter for the Terriers.
The hitters emerged in week two as Georgia defeated Florida State 20-10, Northwestern beat Georgia Tech 19-6 and South Carolina defeated San Diego 18-1.
Week three featured a return of the pitchers as Karlyn Pickens threw a perfect game for Tennessee and Florida got a no-hitter from Keagan Rothrock and a perfect game from Olivia Miller.
Fast starts, surprises, elite pitching, powerful bats and more are included in observations following week three of the softball season.

UNCW is off to a solid start as the Seahawks are currently 8-5 on the season following a 3-1 performance last week. UNCW defeated George Mason, Providence and UMBC and used the pitching of Kara Hammock and some late inning magic to record two comeback wins on Sunday. Delaware is also 8-5 on the year after a 3-1 weekend at the Virginia Tournament. Included in the Blue Hens three victories was a pair of wins over Iowa State.
