Pros and Cons of Parent-Coaches
In the world of travel softball, one hot topic sparks passionate responses: is having a parent as a coach a benefit or a challenge? Recently, Extra Inning Softball asked our audience in a Dugout Discussion Poll to weigh in—and the results reveal a lot about how families and players view this dynamic relationship.
More than 82% of respondents said it depends on the coach and how they handle it, while just over 10% believe it’s mostly a challenge because favoritism and drama can occur. About 5% felt neutral coaches are always the better option, and only 1% saw it as an automatic benefit. Clearly, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to the impact of parent-coaches on a player’s journey.
