PGF 16U Premier Nationals Recap: Battle of the Firecrackers Ends in Dramatic Walk-off

The PGF 16U Premier Winner’s Bracket is down to 16 teams and, like its younger counterpart–the 14U Premier age division–will be down to a Final 4 by the end of Wednesday.

These 16U games are being played at the Fountain Valley Sportspark where Mike Martinez with SoCalSidelines is monitoring all the action.  Here’s a look at some of the top games from Wednesday and a look ahead to the eight games set for Thursday…

Game of the Day: Georgia Firecrackers-Sewell 3, Firecrackers-TJ 2

With a couple strokes of fortune, the Georgia Firecrackers-Sewell came back from the brink of the elimination bracket to stay alive in the winners’ side with a dramatic, 3-2, walk-off over Firecrackers-TJ at the PGF 16U Premier Nationals on Wednesday at Fountain Valley Sportspark.

After Lauren Flanders was out beginning the bottom of the seventh, the Georgia Firecrackers, trailing 2-1, appealed to the home plate umpire that the Firecrackers-TJ catcher had not been properly re-entered prior to the frame. Flanders was awarded first base on the appeal, touching off the winning two-run rally.
