Softball wasn’t even Elaina Wagner’s main sport when she was growing up.
Softball was just supposed to be something to keep her busy until soccer started back up. Ok, how things have changed.
“I started playing softball when I was 8-years-old as a back-up sport because at the time I loved soccer” said Wagner, who plays for the Empire State Huskies and Our Lady of Lourdes High, New York.
“Two years later, I ended up joining the Huskies and haven’t looked back since. My coaches and my teammates made me fall in love with the sport. I’ve devoted all my time into my skills and training. It was not until I joined the Huskies first ever Select and National teams that I started getting exposure to many different coaches and schools.”
The SS/3B/UT made it official when she signed with Villanova last Wednesday.
“I started off thinking I wanted to go to school down South, but as time went on, I realized I wanted to go closer to home,” Wagner said. “From a young age, my coaches would communicate with Coach Bridget (Orchard) and it was a dream come true when she contacted me on September 1st of my junior year.”
“As I furthered communication with Coach Bridget and went on my visit, I instantly fell in love with Villanova University. It was everything I was looking for both academically and athletically. The part that really won me over was the sense of family and community that Villanova provided.”
“I felt that instantaneously when I met Coach Bridget, Coach Gabby (Luety), Coach Chelsea (Plimpton) and the entire softball team. It felt like home.”
