Recruiting Special: Texas Glory – Naudin 2022 First Baseman Sydney Lewis Chronicles Her Sept. 1 Contacts from Colleges

Tuesday at Midnight kicked off the Contact Period allowing college coaches to reach out to current high school juniors (the Class of 2022).

One of the top prospects in Texas, junior first baseman Sydney Lewis of Prosper, Texas and a member of Ed Naudin’s Texas Glory 16U team, had a busy September 1 as she heard from college coaches from all over the country.

Sydney has shined at Prosper High the last two years on varsity, earning District 9-6A Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman in 2019 and Defensive Player of the Year this, her sophomore, year.

This summer, the slugging infielder hit 11 home runs for the Glory with a .388 batting average, a .489 on-base percentage, a .757 slugging percentage and a 1.246 OPS.

Sydney also showed her toughness when, in her last tournament summer playing in the Texas FastPitch League, she competed with a broken finger and still played the entire event and slugged two home runs including one in the championship game against Texas Bombers – Burgess.

Coach Naudin has high praise for his prized player:

“Sydney is a professional hitter and has power to all fields,” the Glory coach said. “She’s a student of the game, an exceptional teammate, a future coach and the heart and soul of our program.”

“Sydney is a game changer who brings passion and flair to this sport.  I have enjoyed witnessing her growth and progress and know that Syd is going to be a great player at the next level.”

Here’s a rundown of how Tuesday, September 1, 2020 went in Sydney’s own words…

To say September 1st was good would be an understatement; this was probably one of the best days of my life!

I started off with a text at 12:01 am from Texas-Arlington and then one from Maryland. Then, at 12:15 am, I received a call from Indiana University and then five minutes later received a text from Texas Tech.

I finally went to bed around 1:45 am and woke up around 7 am just to check my phone for new messages to see that I had an email from Pittsburgh.

At 7:30 am, I received a text from Texas State to wish me Happy September 1st.

Then at 8:30 am I received my second phone call, from the University of Maryland, and it went amazing—I loved talking with Coach (Mark) Montgomery!

During my call with Maryland, I received a text from Wichita State at 10:40 am and we ended up setting a time to FaceTime on Thursday (and somehow we ended up talking about Hamilton… lol, don’t ask!)

Then at 10:27 am I received a text from Stephen F. Austin State University asking for a call and we ended up FaceTiming at 11 am.

An hour later I was on the phone with Baylor University with Coaches Glenn Moore and Britni Sneed Newman, such amazing people!

After that, the texts and calls stopped but then right before I left for high school ball, I received an email from Nicholls State asking for a call with me sometime.

Nothing happened after that but then, after my strength and conditioning at 6 pm, I was on a 7:30 pm Zoom call with Indiana and it was such an amazing call getting to know the coaches better!

Then right after I was on an 8:30 pm zoom call with UT-Arlington! During the Zoom call I received a call from Texas State so right when the Zoom ended I went and called back Coach Ricci Woodard.

This is pretty much the end of my night and I’m supposed to have another call with Maryland on Friday and another call with Indiana every week.
