You might have heard about Johnny Cash and a boy named “Sue,” but what about a girl named “Jimmy?”
“I tried out for a team two years ago and the coaches didn’t know who I was,” said Topeka, Kansas’ Raigan Kramer. “All they knew was that I was #99. Supposedly, they knew someone who was #99 named Jimmy that they used to play men’s fastpitch with. From then on out that’s who I was. It just stuck. I’m almost positive some of the younger girls in our organization have no idea that my name is not actually Jimmy.”
Well, Raigan, aka “Jimmy,” has certainly made a name for herself in the recruiting world. The 2021 SS/UT prospect for Select Fastpitch recently committed to Arkansas.
“In the Fall of 2019, Raigan was contacted by numerous mid-majors looking to get her onto campus,” Select Fastpitch coach Bryce Kay said. “Diligent and focused on her dreams of playing at a higher level, she came out this fall and was on fire. Showcasing her abilities in St. Louis, Texas and Kansas City, she quickly caught the eye of several programs.”
“Raigan had offers from Mizzou, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Wichita State, and Pitt,” the coach continues. “She maintained a humble attitude and went to each campus to find the right fit. She found it at Arkansas.”
Kramer is a humble and hard worker who her teammates look up to. And she has an explosive bat.
“Raigan exemplifies what we strive for our athletes to be at Select Fastpitch,” Select Fastpitch’s Eric Jones said. “She doesn’t need the publicity to motivate her to be playing at 110 percent at every moment she’s on the field or in the cage. Her grades are exemplary, and she’s a leader that others look toward. I couldn’t be happier with the representation she gives our organization. Raigan has the ‘It’ factor that will show itself on the big stage. And the best part is she’ll just show it and never talk about it.”
