Leaving the NAIA: Roosevelt Lakers Make the Shift to NCAA Division II

The Roosevelt University Lakers Softball program will begin phase one of the transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II this spring season.

A program with three consecutive winning seasons, The Roosevelt University Lakers will soon have structural reinforcements coming their way thanks to the help of a seismic division change that will occur over the next few seasons.

Located in Chicago, Illinois, the Lakers have historically competed at the NAIA level within the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (“CCAC”).

However, after this school year, the talented team will make the jump to the NCAA Division II level.

The university’s athletic department submitted an application for NCAA membership in late January of last year, following an extensive, multi-year research and consideration process.

The shift will provide very notable benefits to the program, as the Roosevelt Lakers will be the only Division II program located in the Windy City.
