The Super 72 Road to the Rockies softball tournament is set to take place September 11–13, 2026, in the Greater Chicago area, giving Midwest travel teams a high-value opportunity to compete for one of the most coveted prizes in fastpitch—a paid berth into the Colorado 4th of July tournament and a Power Pool placement for 2027.
Hosted by Triple Crown Sports, the event has been running successfully for more than a decade, serving as a strong kickoff to the fall season. What sets this tournament apart, however, is not just the competition—it’s the direct pathway to one of the most prestigious events in youth softball.
At Extra Inning Softball, we prioritize events that create real opportunity. The Super 72 Road to the Rockies is exactly that—a tournament where performance directly translates into future exposure.

A Direct Path to Colorado
The defining feature of the Super 72 Road to the Rockies tournament is the opportunity to earn a paid berth into the Colorado 4th of July event, widely regarded as one of the largest and most competitive fastpitch tournaments in the world.
Each age division winner (12U–18U) will receive:
- A fully paid entry fee into the 2027 Colorado 4th of July tournament
- Placement into the highly competitive Power Pool divisions
The value of this prize is significant.
For 12U–14U teams, the berth is valued between approximately $1,800–$2,300, while for 16U–18U teams, the value approaches $3,000, based on previous entry fees.
Miss Holland, my direct opinion—this is one of the strongest ROI-driven tournament hooks in the Midwest. You are not just selling games; you are selling a future competitive advantage and recruiting opportunity.

Midwest Competition with National Stakes
While the Super 72 primarily draws regional Midwest teams, the stakes elevate the level of play.
Programs entering the event understand they are competing for more than a weekend trophy—they are competing for a guaranteed position in one of the most visible tournaments in the country.
Divisions will include 12U through 18U, allowing teams across multiple age levels to pursue the same high-impact reward.
For younger teams, it’s a chance to accelerate development and exposure. For older teams, it’s an opportunity to position themselves strategically for a major recruiting event the following summer.

Built for Fall Season Momentum
The timing of the Super 72 tournament makes it an ideal fall season kickoff event.
Held in mid-September, the tournament provides teams with:
- Early-season competitive reps
- Opportunities to evaluate new rosters
- A chance to establish identity heading into fall
- Immediate motivation with a high-value prize
For many programs, this event becomes a launch point for the entire fall schedule, setting the tone for development and competition in the months ahead.
Why the Colorado 4th of July Matters
The Colorado 4th of July tournament remains one of the most recognized and heavily attended events in fastpitch softball.
Earning entry into the Power Pool divisions is especially valuable, as it places teams in front of stronger competition and increased recruiting visibility.
By winning the Super 72, teams bypass the uncertainty of qualification and secure their position well in advance—an advantage that cannot be overstated.
This connection between fall performance and summer opportunity is what makes the Super 72 stand out in a crowded tournament landscape.
