EXTRA SPOTLIGHT: SHELBY UNDERWOOD
Uncommitted 2024 P/1B/3B Shelby Underwood recently talked to Extra Inning Softball about the KC Peppers, Northeast High, Paige Lowry and the Diamond Divas.
EXTRA SPOTLIGHT Q&A

Name: Shelby Underwood
Hometown: Arma, KS
High School: Northeast High
Club Team: KC Peppers 14U
Graduation Year: 2024
Height: 5-foot-6
Position: P/1B/3B
Nickname: Shelbs
Twitter: @Shelby_0411
Honors: All A honor roll, 1st Team All Softball (2021).
High School Highlights: Hitting — .854 AVG, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 8 HRs, 29 runs and 45 RBIs; Pitching — 11-0, 2.86 ERA, 116 Ks and 66 IP.
Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them?
I started to practice with the Peppers during the winter and I kept practicing with them. One night Jeff (Wallace) texted my mom and said that the 14U team had a spot for me and I took the spot.

Can you talk about your experience at Northeast High and how you are doing there?
High school ball is going great. The team is working well together and we are doing well. I am doing well and hitting the ball well. I am also pitching pretty good. I learned a new pitch and it’s a screwball. I have used it some and it seems to be working well.
Who is your sports hero and why?
I really like Paige Lowry. I think that she is a very good pitcher and when I went and watched (Oklahoma) play when she was still there I thought it was pretty cool.
Do you have a secret talent/skill?
I can wiggle my ears for my talents.
What’s your most memorable softball story?
I remember hitting my first home run. I was at a tournament in Kansas City. I was in 10U and I was playing with the Diamond Divas. I made a bet with my dad that if I hit a home run he would have to buy me my first phone. We had the bet for a while, but then one game I hit my first home run.
