Atlanta Vipers 05-Tamborra, #3 in the Extra Elite Eighty 14U Club Rankings, is known for its prominent pitching staff and the Vipers had to dig deep with some of their top weapons unavailable at the Triple Crown East Coast Summer Nationals this past weekend in Myrtle Beach, SC.
The Vipers did and they came out victorious, beating Atlanta Vipers-Hudson, 7-1, to capture the Triple Crown East Coast Summer Nationals championship.
“Our pitching staff was not our normal going into this week as Malayna Tamborra has been very limited on the mound as she’s nursing an injury for the past couple of weeks and Macey Cintron was unable to join us due to COVID concerns,” Vipers coach Stacy Tamborra said.
“Amber Reed has recently joined our staff and was very dependable throughout the week as we were able to spread out the innings and Malayna was able to give a few solid innings in each game as well as Jaylyn Benson. All combined for a perfect game in Game 4. With this format and the heat, it is imperative to manage your pitching staff and I couldn’t be more proud of how each of our pitchers responded. A true staff effort and very efficient work by Amber Reed to be able to handle a bulk of the innings. Limited walks and stellar defense across the board.
“Fran Lumpp and Ryleigh Garrett threw out runners at will. When this team plays like we have these past few weeks, there is nothing they can’t do. Double plays, diving catches, throwing on the run … you name it!! Such a fun team to watch! They truly love playing together and it shows! The have a tremendous chemistry and the love being together on and off the field. Something truly special!! So proud!!
The offense was led by Thalia Martin, who batted .538 with a homer and six RBIs, Zoe Calvez, who batted .500 with three walks and 10 runs scored, and Jaylyn Benson, who hit a home run and drove in nine runs.
