EXTRA INNING SCOUTING REPORT
With the 2020 high school softball season approaching, TLI will be taking a look at some of the top teams in the country with the Extra Inning Scouting Report.
TLI talked to Norco High, CA, coach Rick Robinson about his Cougars, who have won back-to-back CIF-Southern Section Division 1 championships. Robinson led the Cougars to Division 1 championships in 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2019 to earn Softball Coach of the Decade honors from MaxPreps. Norco, #2 in the nation in last year’s final Extra Elite Eighty High School Rankings, have been in contention for a national championship for the past decade and will be once again this season.

What will it take for your team to be successful this season? Our two returning pitchers — Sarah Willis and Stevie Hansen — will have to pitch as well as they did last year. We will need to have someone step up and provide some offense to make up for the loss of Kinzie Hansen (Oklahoma) and Paige Smith (Ole Miss).
Who is your No. 1 pitcher and what can you tell me about her skills? Who else could see some time in the circle? Sarah Willis returns for her senior season after back-to-back (CIF-SS) Division 1 championship wins. Stevie Hansen, who was dominant in all the games she pitched last year, will see a lot of pitching time.
What can we expect from your offense? We have a good mix of speed and power.
Who are the potential All-Section/All-District/All-State players on your team? Sarah Willis, Allison Beecher, Katelyn Olsonn, Kyleigh Sand, Stevie Hansen and Abby Dayton.

RYAN MADDOX MOVES TO OC BATBUSTERS
Highly-touted 2023 P/OF prospect Ryan Maddox earned All-Tournament honors after leading Central Cal Dirtdogs-Pickering to a third-place finish at the PGF 14U Premier Nationals this past summer. Shortly after Thanksgiving, Maddox decided to leave the Dirtdogs and join Mike Stith‘s OC Batbusters, #2 in the nation in the Extra Elite Eighty 18U Club Rankings.

Maddox’s decision to leave the Dirtdogs triggered a series of other players to leave Sara Pickering’s team, which ended up disbanding. Pickering will coach an 18U team in the Dirtdogs organization.
