Travel Ball Highlights/Fall Stats: We just moved from Illinois to Tennessee, so I only guest played on a couple travel teams last fall. I’m grateful for that time to get to know people and teams, get comfortable with my new school and get familiar with life in TN!
High School Spring Highlights/Stats: It was definitely different starting high school in a new state where I didn’t know anyone, but I was fortunate to have great teammates and coaches who welcomed me into the GHS softball family. I played across four positions (SS/2B/CF/RF) … wherever the coaches needed me. We finished the regular season undefeated in our conference and went on to win Districts. We fell short of our state run by one game, but ended with an overall record of 30-11 and our team was named “Softball Team of the Year” for East TN by Grassroots Media. Our team was scrappy and came up with big plays when we needed them. I contributed the second highest batting average (.410), OBP (.486) and fielding percentage (.953) and led the team in stolen bases (18). We will lose eight really talented senior leaders and a great head coach, but I know we will come back strong next year, determined to achieve even more.
Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them?
Since we just moved to the Southeast from Illinois last year, I spent some time researching and trying out with different teams in the spring. It was a hard decision, but I had a great connection with the players and coaches on the SC Elite team and knew playing with them would make me better. I also met a couple of players that had previously played for Coach (Dana) Fusetti and Coach (Chuck) Goodwin and, of course, they have an impressive resume and a deep knowledge of softball.
What do you bring to the team?
I hope I bring to the team what I have brought to my other teams — leadership, communication, being a great teammate, a desire to constantly improve, integrity and winning.
What area are you focusing on/trying to improve this summer?
I am looking forward to sharpening all aspects of my game, but I am most focused on improving my hitting. Even though I’ve played competitive travel ball since I was 8 years old and have consistently hit well, I’ve never had a hitting coach. I am beyond blessed to be able to begin working with the Marc Weekly Hitting Academy (MWHA)! I just started in the MWHA in June and Coaches Weekly, Mark Webber, and (Lauren) Irwin have already tweaked my mechanics and helped me identify what a great swing should feel and look like. I am so excited to get more work in with them! Even though I just started working with Coach Weekly, he is already teaching me so much more about being a complete player.
