TEAM SPOTLIGHTS:

TLI is back and more interested than ever with highlighting your program!

Fill out the Q&A below and provide all the information and send it back to los.extrainningsoftball@gmail.com. or contact @Los_Stuff in a Direct Message on Twitter to get a Q&A.

Here’s the information we are looking for:

  1. Questions
  • When did the team/program start and how/why did it come to be?
  • Where are you based? Where do your athletes come from (all locally, some out of state?)
  • What was the purpose of creating the team (showcase players, win titles, develop skills, etc.)?
  • What have been some of your successes in terms of winning or placing at events?
  • What makes the organization unique?
  • What’s your softball background and how did you get to the point of leading the team?
  • How many teams are there in the organization overall?
  • Has there been a key moment or defining experience in the team’s history?
  • What is your primary focus or goal with this team?
  • What do you think are the strengths of the team?
  • If there is one thing you would say that separates you from other club programs, what would it be?
  • Anything else interesting or fun that Extra Inning Softball could use to portray your team as a top organization?
  1. Player Write-ups

Sample:

— OF/2B Jane Doe (2022, OF/2B, uncommitted)

Sample: “Jane just came out to us and her thing is she does a great job in placing the ball and moving runners. I’m looking at her as being our No. 2 hitter and makes sure the leadoff hitter gets to second or third.  She’s a great contact hitter and forces defenses to make plays.  Jane is also a tremendously hard worker.”

  1. Send Team & Individual Player Photos (3-5)

*** Being adopted myself, I’ve long been a fan of Addie Mettler’s story and look back to it as one of my favorite stories we’ve ever done—you can read the complete 2019 story titled The Winding Path to a Complete Family… the Addie Mettler Adoption Story by clinking on the title link or by clicking HERE.

Besides being a heart-warming family story of a family who LOVES softball and sports overall—Addie’s parents Greg and April were college athletes and older sister Alexis would play softball at the University of Virginia—it’s also a story of a standout  softball player as the 2023 grad, a C/IF from Nor Cal who plays for Tony Rico’s premier Firecrackers 18U team, committed over the weekend to UCLA.

The fantastic junior, ranked as a Top 5 overall player in the 2023 Extra Elite 100, wrote this via social media when she made her verbal official to the Bruins:

Grateful is an understatement . I am extremely excited to announce that I have verbally committed to UCLA to further both my athletic and academic career. Being a bruin had been a huge dream of mine and i’m incredibly honored to be able to turn it into a reality. So ready for the work ahead. I am thankful for my parents who have supported me through all the good and bad times of this wonderful game, and thankful for all the coaches that have helped make me into the player I am today. Always reppin the blue and gold. 4’s UP BABY! 💙💛 #babybru #committed

Addie also had one of our all-time favorite looks on the field when she sported this mask which must not make a pitcher’s job any easier!

Brentt Eads, Extra Inning Softball

Jaeya was a top 100 honoree in the 2023 Extra Elite 100 from earlier this year.

*** Jaeya Butler, a talented 2023 Top 100-rated MIF with Corona Angels – Tyson, committed to Michigan State last month and told us about how she made the decision to be a Spartan:

“I can honestly say,” she told Extra Inning Softball, “it was a long, slightly stressful and exciting process in trying to make the right decision for both my academic future and level of competition at the softball level.”

“I have played softball since I was 7 years old and always had dreams of playing softball in college,” Jaeya contined. “To see that dream is in the process of coming true is ever so exciting. I have been coached by some really great coaches and am grateful for each and every one of them. Especially the late great Mark Campbell who believed in me and brought great things out of me as an athlete.”

The junior had three offers and interest from several more but felt confident in her decision to be a Spartan.

“I’m happy to announce committing to MSU,” she continued. “My club ball coach always tells his players and parents, ‘Love who loves you in softball.’ While I felt a different level of love from each of the schools, the hardest part was that all the coaches were really great. I literally loved them all.”

“There is just something about being made to feel like you are a coach’s #1,#2 and #3 pick. That is how the MSU coaching staff made me feel. I’m beyond excited to be a future Spartan. Go Green!”

We will have more on Jayea in the near future!
