Transfer News: Arizona Wildcats Add Pitching Depth With Oklahoma Transfer Mariah Lopez

Mariah Lopez, one of the outstanding 2019 pitchers that helped Oklahoma reach the Championship Series, entered the transfer portal the first week in June. She will give the Wildcats great depth in the pitching ranks.

Oklahoma’s career winning percentage record holder and 2019 NFCA 1st team All-Region pitcher Mariah Lopez will transfer and complete her collegiate eligibility at Arizona, UA head softball coach Mike Candrea announced on Tuesday. Lopez will be a senior for the Wildcats in 2020.

She was ranked the #1 player in the Class of 2016 by Extra Inning Softball Executive Editor Brentt Eads in 2014 in a Top 10 that also included Miranda Elish (#2, now at Texas), Bailey Hemphill (#3, Alabama), Nicole Mendes (#5, Oklahoma), Dejah Mulipola (#8, Arizona), Mackenzie Boesel (#9, South Carolina) and Sis Bates (#10, Washington).

Lopez and Mulipola played on the same OC Batbuster teams that were coached by Gary Haning and Mike Stith and included standouts like new teammates Taylor McQuillin (Arizona) and Alyssa Palomino as well as Morganne Flores (Washington) and Amanda Lorenz (Florida).
