Nicole Bodeux and Kirsten Fleet combined on a three-hit shutout to help Texas Bombers Gold-Smith/Burgess, #7 in the Extra Elite Eighty 16U Club Rankings, to a 5-0 victory over #9 Texas Blaze 16U United in the 16U Gold Bracket Finals of the Triple Crown Texas State Championships.

BLAZE TAKES CARE OF HOTSHOTS IN 14U STATE FINALS
Sidne Peters tossed a one-hit shutout with no walks and seven strikeouts in five innings to lift Texas Blaze 14U United-Robertson, #15 in the Extra Elite Eighty 14U Club Rankings, to a 3-0 victory over #35 Hotshots Premier HTX 06-Esparza in the 14U Gold Bracket Finals of the Triple Crown Texas State Championships.
Raeghan Carlson led the offense with a two-run blast in the top of the fourth.
“This was a great team win for us,” Blaze coach Cory Robertson said. “First tournament back playing together since November and being shut down from COVID for so long, scoring 77 runs and only giving up nine in 7 games is pretty good start to the summer. We always set the bar high for them and for them to come out and do what they did is pretty impressive. Have to get back after it this weekend and keep working hard. Kids work hard and stay hungry. Every kid on the team contributed in some way and that’s a key to our success is having 16 selfless kids, period.”
Carlson was on fire for the tournament, hitting 695 with HRs and 17 RBIs. Ariel Kowalewski was also hot, batting .595 with four doubles, two HRs and 12 RBIs. Townsen Thomas made some great plays in LF and she batted lead-off and was a nightmare for defenses with her legit 2.6 speed. Blaze’s speedy slappers combined for 32 stolen bases
Peters, Janelle Wilson and Emily Delgado were lights out in the circle, combining for a 1.09 ERA and 40 Ks.
