Summer club play is a great time to compete with teammates you’ve known about for years and sometimes those teammates can be family!
That’s the case in the Blankenship home out of Florida as graduated high school senior shortstop Brooke Blankenship and her sophomore sister Caitlin not only played together for years at the high school level, the sisters also won a state championship together earlier in their prep careers when backing up current Alabama pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl when the trio was at Academy at the Lakes High.
Older sister Brooke, who will be represent the National Team in tonight’s Alliance All-Star Game, was an Extra Inning Softball 1st Team High School All-American this year as the Florida State signee capped off a stellar high school career by hitting .541 and compiling a .971 fielding percentage at River Ridge (Port Richey, Florida) High.
Caitlin, who has played both third and second base lining up next to her sister, has been on the varsity level since she was a sixth grader and this season hit in the 4-spot at River Ridge. Playing with Brooke, the local media have called the high school’s infield “one of the best in Tampa” and Cait has impressively earned All North Suncoast and All State honors every year she’s played varsity.
The two knew, however, their days next to each other would come to an end but got one last chance to take the field together in the Atlanta Legacy earlier this month when Brooke guested with Cait’s Lady Lightning Gold team.
Here’s a video from that weekend as Cait on the left and Brooke on the right share what that opportunity meant for them:
