Voices From the Field Interview
As part of Voices From the Field, Extra Inning Softball spotlights athletes making an impact on and off the diamond. Today, we spotlight the West Ranch High School softball program (Valencia, California), led by Head Coach Mike Merrilees, which made a thrilling run to the state finals in 2025 behind the leadership of standouts Isabella Swanson, Gretchen Roen, and captain Payton Borland.
We highlight the culture shift under Coach Merrilees, breakout moments from the season, the impact of West Ranch’s seniors, and what’s ahead for the Wildcats after a 17–16 campaign (8–4 in league play).
We’re just warming up—tap in for the full journey.
