Grab your popcorn, kick up your feet and enjoy a good ol’ fashioned home run derby tonight courtesy of the PowerSwings Power50 Home Run Derby taking place in Crossville, Tennessee.
ProSwings founder Stephanie Best has three standout hitters who will challenge the club-level participants in a “Players vs Pros” format.
“Each club team will be allowed to send a pair of players to the qualifying round that lead to the finalist competing on the big state,” explains Best. “This year the pros will be Lauren Hager, the former Florida Gatora All-American and National Champion; Victoria Hayward, the Canadian National Team Captain, and Jenn Salling, a former Washington Husky All-American and National Champion.”
The main event will take place at 8 pm EST and is expected to go until 8:30.
Win or not, the six finalists will get an EcoShield and a ProSwings long-sleeve shirt, the Top 3 will receive backpacks and the overall winner will walk away with a brand new DeMarini bat.
The format, according to Best, is as follows:
- Every team has the option of sending two players to participate; there could be 80 total contestants to start,
- There will be 30-second rounds for each batter to hit as many home runs as possible.
- The Top 12 home run hitters from Round 1 will advance to the Qualifying Round.
- The Top 6 of those dozen will advance to the semis
- The finals will be 3-on-3 “Players vs Pros.”
Last year’s champions of the Players vs. Pros format was Mackenzie Clarke of Tampa Mustangs TJ, a Clemson committed outfielder, who defeated pro player Jade Rhodes.
