We are seeking a highly-organized, experienced, and reliable Managing Editor to join our staff and, in this position, the hire will be responsible for overseeing the development and execution of editorial content, ensuring that all content meets our high standards of quality, accuracy, and timeliness.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee the development and execution of editorial content, including new stories, features, and other content related to girls/women’s fastpitch softball.
• Write, assign, and edit stories for digital and other platforms such as social media.
• Work with the sports media team to plan and execute a content strategy for coverage of softball, including breaking and trending news coverage. 
• Upload reviewed content to our content managing system. This involves making sure the content is well-formatted, visually appealing, and timely. 
• Work closely with audience and social teams to follow trends and identify coverage opportunities and needs.
• Manage a team of writers, assigning stories, and ensuring deadlines are met. 
• Collaborate with other departments to create content. 
• Develop and maintain relationships with sources, coaches, players, and other industry professionals to stay on top of industry trends and breaking news.   

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field is preferred. 
• At least 1-3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in Sports Media.
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. 
• Excellent organization skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. 
• Strong attention to detail. 
• Ability to meet deadlines and work independently. 
• Knowledge of AP Style and SEO best practices preferred. 
• Passion for girls’/women’s fastpitch softball and knowledge of the industry is a plus.
• Growing leadership skills and the ability to manage a team. 
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Work Location:

• Remote in the United States

Schedule: 

• Monday-Friday
• 8 am – 5 pm MST
• Some weekends (as needed including event coverage)

Salary and Pay Structure

• Salary + Commissions: (based on experience and/or work history)
