10 Fun Facts About Macey Cintron: The #1 Player in the 2024 Extra Elite 100!

Originally published Sept. 23, 2019 on Extra Inning Softball

Macey Cintron has a group of friends, teammates, family and coaches last Wednesday when she learned she was #1 in the 2021 Extra Elite 100; here are some of them (l-r): Nia McKnight, Marian Collins, Stacy Tamborra, Macey, Bella Faw and Malayna Tamborra honoring the #1 player.

Last Friday, we unveiled the Top 10 in the 2024 Extra Elite 100 and on top of the list was pitcher Macey Citron from Coral Springs, Florida who pitched for the Puerto Rican team this year as a 13-year-old in the U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup.

Macy pitches for the Atlanta Vipers and lives in Cumming, Georgia now after the family moved a year ago.

She’s an incredible talent who is a power pitcher and hitter who will have her choice of colleges to choose from down the road.

You can see here in this clip how Macey was told by Extra Inning Softball’s Brentt Eads she was the #1 ranked player in her class (that’s Vipers Head Coach Stacy Tamborra giving the hug!):

And here’s some things you probably didn’t know about this tremendous talent…

*****

Macey has been around the game of softball since before she was born. Literally.

Macey in the womb with the “knuckles” lined up!

Her mom, Mindy Cintron, coached a Gold Coast Hurricanes travel ball team and was the pitching coach at a local college (Broward College)until Macey was born and even in the womb Macey was showing a softball preference.

“In one of my ultrasounds,” the athlete’s mother laughs, “Macey had her knuckles lined up in the photo (see attached) and it has always been the family laugh that Macey would be a power hitter she learned from the womb.”

Her mom and her father, Angel Cintron, have coached Macey from the beginning. She started travel softball at 5-years-old for the Coral Springs Panther and then the Pines Thunder team for 8U.

In 10U, her mom got another Gold Coast Hurricanes team where Macey played until the family moved to Georgia and now the 2024 grad plays for Coach Stacy Tamborra with her dad still helping out on that team as well.

*****

She has a nice softball/baseball family tree.

Macey’s mom played college ball at Broward College (Florida) and has been a long-time coach. Her dad played semi-pro baseball and also has been a coach for the athlete. A distant uncle on her Dad’s side was Ramon Hernandez Gonzalez, a relief pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1967-1977.

The Citron kids (l-r): Macey, Raquel, Warren, Rebecca and Moriah.

Macey comes from a big family with three older sisters, Rebecca, Raquel and Moriah, and a younger brother Warren, who is 10. She also has four nephews and two nieces so “Christmas is always fun!”

*****

Macey was inspired to start a summer camp to help grow softball in the local community park. She got a group of leaders together from her North Forsyth School Softball team and they planned for two months and produced a free three-day summer camp that was a huge success and hit full capacity in just two days with 70 kids K-5th grade.

They called the camps Future Fastpitch and are looking to continue with more camps for this group.

Macey is big at helping out young players via her camps.

*****

Macey won her first home run derby at age 10.

*****

Macey and Coach Tamborra.

Macey loves Chick-fila and Starbucks.

*****

Macey favorite show is “Friends” on Netflix.

*****

Macey is obsessed with water bottles!

Her mom explains: “She just loves them, all kinds of water bottles, and can’t pass the aisle in any store without wanting a new water bottle!”

*****

Macey really enjoys being a part of the Peer Buddies program in school. This program allows kids without disabilities to work together in inclusive educational setting with kids with disabilities.

Says her mother, “She lights up when she comes home and tells me about different kids she is paired with and the stories. Macey really has a passion to help others. She sometimes takes notes for them when they can’t or partners with them in PE.”

*****

Macey is not 100 percent sure of what she wants to be, but she is highly considering coaching at the college level or something in the medical field. She also is considering finding a career in helping individuals with disabilities.
