Not many 13-year-olds can say they have played on the world’s biggest international stage in softball in junior national competition against top countries like China, but it’s true for Macey Cintron, a 5-foot-9 pitcher who pitched for Team Puerto Rico in the WBSC U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup this summer won by the USA Team.
Last month, Macey--who will make the 2024 Extra Elite 100 when it launches next week--went from PGF Nationals directly to the U-19 World Cup, where she competed for the Puerto Rico National Team as the youngest member in the event and, better yet, beat Team China’s U-19 team 5-3.
She will return to join the Puerto Rican 15U National Team to compete again in October and more confident than ever in her abilities to match up against international athletes as many as six years older than her!
Given her height and stature in the circle, the Georgia standout casts quite the imposing shadow, throwing upwards of 67 mph with the ability to locate the ball in any zone and offset her heat with a highly-effective change-up.
Offensively, Macey is a force to be reckoned with too; At the Scenic City Showcase this summer, she hit two home runs that went 280 feet but it’s her pitching talents that put her on the Puerto Rican National Team.
The 2024 grad has had valuable travel ball experience as one of the ace's for the Atlanta Vipers '05 - Tamborra team coached by Stacy Tamborra. Macey posted a 1.89 ERA this year and led the Vipers to a team record of 69-14.
“Macey is a tremendous athlete and teammate,” explains Coach Tamborra. “She is fun-loving and yet fiercely competitive. Her teammates adore her and truly support and celebrate her successes and international opportunities.”
“Macey is a great example of leadership and making the most of her opportunities,” continues her coach. “As successful as she was on the mound this year, Macey still has a ton of ‘upside!’ She will continue to improve, spin and move her pitches more, command her off-speed and continue to build in speed and power.”
“I love working with Macey—she is a highly coachable pitcher and athlete...the sky is truly the limit for this one. “
Macey has caught the attention of many SEC and ACC coaches already. She has attended camps at University of Florida, Clemson, Ole Miss and South Carolina.
