As we continue our look at top 2022 players across the nation, we head to North Carolina to learn more about a second baseman who is getting the attention of coaches in the ACC and SEC.
Madison Mercer is a versatile hitter who can beat you with the power or short game, runs well and is defensively strong.
But her best attribute, many coaches and scouts believe, is her “never say die” attitude. Head Coach James Lamar, who coaches Madison on the Lady Dukes 14U team says, “She goes all for every ball and doesn’t let anything get past her with her amazing athletic ability and grit. She’s relentless.”

What’s been your most memorable softball experience?
When I won the state championship in 8U.
What would you say are your strengths on the field?
Coaches say I have a high IQ for the game, quick and good footwork and my defense is a strength. I also think that my ability to hit from the left or right side of the plate is a strength.
Have you set personal goals for yourself for this year?
Yes, I want to continue to succeed on and off the field and to grow as a softball player to become a D1 commit.
