2023 Extra Elite 100 Candidate Spotlight: Kyla Stroud… A Second Generation Auburn Athlete

Kyla Stroud makes it clear where she’s headed! She’ll be 2 1/2 hours from her Georgia home when she heads to Auburn in 2023.

It’s a strong year for talent in Georgia and one of the best hitters not just in the Peach State but across the nation is Kyla Stroud.

Kyla holds the distinction of being of the very few 2023’s who committed early when she picked Auburn in April of 2018, shortly before the new recruiting no-contact rules went into place.

Although she had heavy interest from many Top 25-level college softball programs, Auburn was where her heart was as her father, Horace, was a running back for the Tigers from 1988-91.

And when the young softball met Coach Mickey Dean and his staff, that sealed the deal!

You can read more about Kyla in a piece we ran on April 30, 2018 titled Recruiting: 10 Questions with 2023 Auburn Commit Kyla Stroud.

Now, as we get ready to unveil the 2023 Extra Elite 100 list starting Monday, here’s more on this standout who is SEC bound…

What would it mean to you to be considered as one of the top 100 players in your grad class?
It is a blessing and an honor not just for me but for my team Georgia Impact 05. We work so hard and the work is starting to pay off.

You had already committed to Auburn when the Early Recruiting Rules came out but it did mean your communication with Coach Dean and staff would be different… what were your thoughts about the changes?
It really didn’t matter, I’m just going to keep working hard and grinding.

Talk about your recruiting journey… you’re one of the very few who committed early from the Class of 2023. When were your first offered and how, when and why did you commit?
I was offered by Coach Dean after camp. He took us up in the office. I wanted to commit then, but my dad said wait till we looked around more. I knew that’s where I wanted to go so we went back to the Tennessee game and Coach Dean, Coach Eddy Ketelhut, and Coach Annie Smith called us down and asked me was I ready and I said “Yes sir, I am.”

What would you say has been the biggest key to your becoming the successful softball player you are today?
