As part of our ongoing research into who the top softball prospect are leading up to our launch of the 2023 Extra Elite 100 starting March 11, 2019, we’re profiling talented players who come highly recommended and today’s spotlight takes us to the East Coast.
Madison Edwards plays for Kevin Hinde’s Team NC 14U team that finished 2018 with a 55-17-2 record and had several Top 10 finishes last year as a 12U team.
“Madison is a very special player with extreme athleticism and a high softball IQ,” the coach begins. “These attributes combined with a very strong arm—a 68 mph-plus overhand velocity–and being fast allow her to play almost any position on the field.”
“She primarily plays the middle infield and is a power hitter with a mechanically sound swing that can send the ball out of the park at any time. Madison has received interest from many top Power 5 programs.”
Here’s a Q&A with this dedicated talent who, in her answers below, explains when she knew she had fallen in love with softball!

When was this first time you realized that you really loved softball and what triggered that feeling?
The first time I realized that I really loved softball was when I started playing travel ball. I realized that softball was all I was thinking about! I would think about how I had to practice that day and couldn’t wait to get out on the field or how I had a tournament that weekend and I couldn’t wait to play. I realized I had fallen in love with the game.
What would it mean to you to be considered as one of the top 100 players in your grad class?
Being considered as one of the top 100 players in my grad class would mean so much to me. It would mean that all my hard work and dedication is getting noticed and paying off.
Were you happy or bummed when the Early Recruiting Rules came out and meant you couldn’t be recruited and/or commit until shortly before the start of your junior year of high school?
I was bummed when the Early Recruiting Rules came out because of having to wait so long to know the level of interest from my top schools.
What would you say has been the biggest key to your becoming the successful softball player you are today?
The biggest key to becoming the successful softball player I am today would have to be my coaches and my parents who have pushed me, believed in me, and supported me along the way. My older brother has played a big role in my success too. He and I are always competing to be better than each other and I think that has really pushed me to be the best I can be at everything I do. My hard work and dedication have been a big part of my success as well.
What are you looking forward to most this upcoming summer?
This summer I am looking forward to being able to play the game I truly love with my best friends.
