This week, among our 35 new players on our list which includes many from the Team Pennsylvania and Virginia Glory programs (thanks coaches!), is a familiar name if you’ve followed club softball the last few years.
Brooke Vestal was one of the top recruits in the 2018 class and signed with the University of Oklahoma where she’s currently a freshman. She helped lead the Firecrackers-Rico 18U team to the PGF National Championship in 2016.
Her younger sister, Hunter, is a dead ringer for Brooke and is a skilled pitcher of her own.
Both played at Canyon (New Braunfels, Texas) High and helped lead their teams deep in the Texas state playoffs during their careers and both also have had success on the volleyball court.
Hunter, a 2020 grad, committed this week to Bucknell and, according to her father, Rick, couldn’t be happier.
“Hunter’s goal has always been to go to an East Coast school to get a high-end education,” he says. “She had a 1400 SAT and was 4th in her class of 670, plus she likes the East and is looking forward to experiencing weather other than ‘Hot & Hotter’ which is Texas.”
The junior looked at Ivy and Patriot League schools but her father continues, “She fell in love with Bucknell immediately as she liked the smaller school (3,500 enrollment) and small-town college environment.”
Hunter is in her fourth year of playing with the Texas Blaze organization and competed in club volleyball until age 14, though is still playing for Canyon High.
“Bucknell was an easy choice for me,” she explains. “I loved the campus and the university fits my academic and softball goals. I can’t wait to study engineering at a prestigious school like Bucknell and play on a team that is on the rise under Coach Joey Lyes.”
