Breaking News: New American Collegiate League Announced for Softball, Appropriately Enough, on Independence Day!

It’s appropriate that the newly-formed American Collegiate League was announced today, the birthdate of our nation, as this new venture has Red, White & Blue written all over it.

Literally, as reflected in the colors of the logo including the white starts on the blue background, but also in execution as the burgeoning collegiate league will be founded on players having the equity and ownership of the franchises.

ACL Executive Director Ryan Moore told Extra Inning Softball over the weekend that the American Collegiate League has secured several locations in the United State over the last three months with the plan to have six-to-eight teams per location.

The American Collegiate League will be the umbrella organization which will see the local and regional teams—such as the Florida Gulf Coast League, for example—competing under a uniform system.

The head of the new league says this format will be duplicated throughout the country as the FGCL has provided a successful pathway to allow more collegiate softball athletes to keep developing their game.

“Professional players—such as those involved in the newest pro team, the Florida Vibe—will be represented with players having team equity in the various league teams throughout the country to help benefit them each financially from a business perspective,” Moore says.

The key, he emphasizes, is helping these athletes make more financially in line with what other sports leagues provide in terms of compensation and investment.

“Our goal is to provide more summer collegiate opportunities throughout the country for collegiate softball athletes and other collegiate sports,” Moore adds, “but also to provide a business opportunity and equity position for each of the professional players in all the different regional leagues and teams.  We believe this will provide the credible growth of the game for both the collegiate and professional players.”

Another attractive factor to the promising new structure is having a collegiate summer world series that will bring together the top teams and players to one location.

“It’s our end game today,” the Executive Director concludes, “to have a summer collegiate world series for each of the region’s champions at a designated location in July and to have broadcasting revenue opportunities as well.”

Extra Inning Softball will have more on the American Collegiate League in the upcoming weeks and months…
