If you read the Kelly Barnhill throwback article from when she was tearing up the high school and club world in 2014, you may have noticed that she was very complementary towards her pitching instructor, Stacy Tamborra.
Stacy is the former All-ACC pitcher at Florida State who now runs Champions Fast Pitch Academy and is recognized as one of the top pitching instructors in the country.
She also oversees one of the top 14U programs in the country, which was recently recognized in the Extra Elite Eighty club rankings.
We did a team profile focusing on the Viper players a few months ago and today look at the 1st year 14U team as it gets ready to compete this summer and learn more about why it’s a Top 25 team preseason in our Extra Elite Eighty rankings.

Atlanta Vipers 05-Tamborra – Overview & Strengths
The ’05 Atlanta Vipers-Tamborra (1st year 14u) is based out of Marietta, Georgia.
Head coach, Stacy Tamborra, has assembled a team that has a good blend of power, athleticism, and skill. The team is built around a mix of elite pitchers, who complement one another impeccably well.
The defense has savvy, skilled players in the infield and one of the most athletic outfields one will see in 14u teams. On offense, the team is deep and can produce throughout the lineup.
A Top 25 Team at 14U
Coming out of the summer of 2018, Tamborra knew that one key strategy to get better was to compete against the best.
The team opened up the fall winning their first two tournaments. Afterwards, they went on a four-week showcase run, where they played in Power Pools at the top showcases in the country: Diamond 9 Sun Classic Showcase (record 3-3), Champions Showcase (2-1-2), Veterans Memorial Showcase (4-1), and T-Bolts 5 Star Showcase (3-2).
The Vipers squared off against some of the top teams in the nation: Georgia Impact Fisher/Lewis 14U (tied), EC Bullets Mayfield (tied), Hotshot Premier Jones 05 (win), Georgia Impact Premier C. Lewis ’05 (win), and Athletics Mercado 2023 (loss), Texas Glory Naudin 2023 (win).
