What factors led you to commit to George Mason

The factors that led me to commit to Mason was family environment, intended major, and the caring softball community.  The campus is close to home but not too close.  I also liked that the campus is in the city but it doesn’t seem like you are in a city.

When, where and how did you commit?

I committed July 7, 2022 on my way home from my unofficial visit.  Coach Walker made the offer and encouraged me to take some time to think about it.  On the way home, I told my mom I knew I wanted to go to Mason so I called Coach Walker within an hour of leaving to accept the offer.

Dara Jo Sharpe and her high school team–on which her mom is coach and her sister an assistant–celebrate winning state.
What is your favorite softball memory?

My favorite softball memory is my high school team winning the State Championship this past spring.

What are your top individual accomplishments?

I have been a member of my high school softball team since I was a Freshman (season ended due to COVID).  I have been named First Team All District for three years, Team Captain for two years, First Team Central VA All Area for three years, First Team Free Lance Star All Area for one year, NFCA All American Scholar-Athlete for three years.  Also, received the Leadership Award as a Senior.

What are your strengths in softball?

I feel my strengths are my leadership abilities and my knowledge of the game.

One superstition or habit Dara Jo has is drawing a cross in the dirt and when at the plate between each play.
Do you have any softball superstitions?

I have to draw a cross in the dirt between every batter when on defense and every time I get in the batter’s box when I am hitting.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen happen on a softball field?

The funniest thing I have experienced while being on the softball field was when, after our pre-practice meeting, Coach said “let’s hit the field” and the whole team literally fell and hit the field.

If you could meet anyone in the softball world, who would it be?

If I could meet anyone in the softball world, I would like to meet Josie Muffley because she is a very dynamic shortstop and will give all she has for her pitcher.

What is one thing that you have learned from your coach that will always stay with you?

I have learned how to compartamentalize life events from softball.  He has been very helpful in getting me to put those distractions in the back of my mind when it comes time to play ball.

How would you say that CBJ helped you in your recruiting process?

CBJ helped me by producing a top-notch video and constantly promoting me to schools they felt I would be a good fit.

More on Dara Jo…

What is something unique about you?

I think I was in a relatively unique situation during school ball because my mom was my head coach and my sister was the assistant coach.

Who is your hero and why?

My mom is my hero because she has taught me to persevere through tough times.  She has also taught me to stand by and love family unconditionally.

What other activities or hobbies do you enjoy outside of softball?

Outside of softball I enjoy reading, studying the Bible, working out spending time with family and friends.

What is your favorite quote or motto?

My favorite quote is “Never Settle.”
