Senior Morganne Flores is considered one of the top catchers in college and last summer was tabbed the winner of the Johnny Bench Award thanks to her defensive skills but she can also go nuclear with the bat at any time!
On Friday, the California native had 7 RBIs – the second time in her career she’s hit that number of runs knocked in – as the #2-ranked Washington Huskies beat Utah State 10-1.
Morganne went 3-for-4 and was a single away from hitting for the cycle as she had a double, triple and home run for the now 9-1 Pac-12 program.
I’ve had the privilege of following Morganne much of her career dating back to her high school and club days when she was also considered one of the top players in her age group.
In August of 2014, I did a profile on Morganne for a website I ran at the time called Full Count Softball – pretty similar to what Extra Inning Softball is today!
At that point more than six years ago, the catcher and her OC Batbusters team had just won PGF Nationals at the 18U level and I had the opportunity to ask the athlete about that national championship and what it was like playing with future college star players you’ve probably heard of, like Amanda Lorenz (Florida), Mariah Lopez (Oklahoma), Kaylee Carlson (UNC, Auburn) and Taylor McQuillin (Arizona)!
Here are Morganne’s thoughts as she was heading into her senior year of high school in 2014-2105…

We’ve talked to several of your Batbuster teammates, like Taylor McQuillin and Amanda Lorenz, about their perspectives on the year and the National Championship… what’s the first thing that comes to mind for you when you reflect upon the past year?
The first thing that comes to my mind when I reflect upon this past year is how much hard work as a team we put into the entire season. The reason that we were so successful was because every weekend we worked our butts off so we wouldn’t have to revisit the feeling of being second place like last year. We held onto that feeling and used it as motivation to become successful this year.
