A Heartbreaking Loss for the Softball Community
The softball world is coping with the loss of 18-year-old, Elana Franks, a talented athlete, devoted teammate, and cherished friend. Elana, a senior at Calvary High School, tragically passed away in a car accident on January 8, 2025. Her passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of her parents, Greg and Lisa Franks, her family, her teammates, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
To help support the Franks family during this unimaginably difficult time, a GoFundMe account has been set up. Contributions will assist with funeral expenses and provide some relief as they navigate this profound loss.
We ask the softball community to keep Greg, Lisa, and the entire Frank’s family in their prayers. Let us honor Elana by reflecting on her remarkable life and the legacy she leaves behind.

A Rising Star and Steady Presence
Elana was a key player for the Calvary High School softball team from eighth grade onward. Starting as a left fielder, she transitioned seamlessly to center field, where she became the team’s calming force. Her talent, dedication, and leadership made her a standout on the field.
Coach Tiffany Wood fondly remembered Elana’s impact, sharing, “Elana was the calming presence on our team. She never got too high or too low and always brought her teammates back to where they needed to be. She had the sweetest smile and was one of the easiest kids I’ve ever coached.”
Elana’s journey as an athlete was filled with unforgettable moments, including “the Elana play,” a diving catch during the 2022 playoffs that secured a 1-0 victory. It was a defining moment that exemplified her competitive spirit and unyielding commitment to her team.
A Life Rooted in Faith
Beyond the field, Elana’s life was defined by her unwavering faith and values. She faithfully observed Lent every season, even when it meant resisting the temptations of sweets and meat at team celebrations. Her steadfast dedication to her beliefs was a source of inspiration to her teammates and coaches alike.
“She never wavered,” Coach Wood said. “That was just who she was—true to what she committed to.”
Elana’s strength and grace were a testament to the words she lived by and the values she upheld. Her life reflected love, kindness, and a deep connection to her faith.
A Season Dedicated to Elana: Team 21 for #25
Calvary High School’s softball team will dedicate their upcoming season to Elana’s memory. Known as “Team 21,” the team will honor her by playing for #25—Elana’s jersey number.
“This year, it will be Team 21 for #25,” Coach Wood shared. “Elana’s spirit will always be with us.”
The outpouring of support for the Franks family has been overwhelming. A GoFundMe page was established to assist with funeral expenses and provide relief during this time. Messages of love and encouragement have come from across the softball community, showcasing the immense impact Elana had on those around her.

A Legacy That Will Live On
As the team steps onto the field this season, they will carry Elana’s memory with them. Her unwavering faith, compassionate heart, and fierce dedication will inspire every inning they play. The softball community, united in grief and love, will ensure her legacy endures.
We invite the community to keep Greg, Lisa, and the entire Frank’s family in their prayers. Together, let us honor Elana’s life and celebrate the light she brought to the world.

Each Life That Touches Ours for Good
Each life that touches ours for good
Reflects thine own great mercy, Lord;
Thou sendest blessings from above
Thru words and deeds of those who love.
What greater gift dost thou bestow,
What greater goodness can we know
Than Christlike friends, whose gentle ways
Strengthen our faith, enrich our days.
When such a friend from us departs,
We hold forever in our hearts
A sweet and hallowed memory,
Bringing us nearer, Lord, to thee.
For worthy friends whose lives proclaim
Devotion to the Savior’s name,
Who bless our days with peace and love,
We praise thy goodness, Lord, above.”
