Cottontail Classic 14U: Tournament Performance Rankings Released

Cottontail Classic 14U: Tournament Performance Rankings Released
Mia Grimaldo – Class of 2031 – Utah Heat 2012

On April 19, 2026, Extra Inning Softball announced a new initiative designed to elevate athlete exposure and bring real-time evaluation to the forefront of the game. Today, that vision becomes reality.

The first official Tournament Performance Rankings—presented by D1 Prospects, Cottontail Classic 14U was held April 17–18 in Salt Lake City, Utah and results are now live.

This marks the debut of a new system that ranks athletes based strictly on their performance within a specific tournament, offering a timely and data-driven snapshot of who is producing when it matters most.

A Strong Start to a Growing Initiative

Since the initial announcement, momentum has built quickly. To date, more than 35+ tournaments are aligned with this initiative, with additional events being added throughout the season.

As the program continues to expand, Extra Inning Softball will introduce position-specific rankings to further refine evaluations. For this first release, however, the focus remains on:

  • Overall Athlete Rankings
  • Overall Hitter Rankings

This approach sets the baseline for future breakdowns while establishing a clear standard for performance-based recognition.

No. 1 Overall: Mia Grimaldo

At the top of the Tournament Performance Rankings leaderboard, Mia Grimaldo earned the #1 Overall Athlete Ranking while also claiming the #1 Overall Hitter Ranking.

Mia’s performance across the event set the tone for what this initiative highlights—players who separate themselves through production, impact, and consistency against live competition.

CEO Bonnie Holland sat down with Mia and her father, Adam Grimaldo, for an exclusive interview—hear what this standout young athlete shares about earning the No. 1 overall ranking and how the recognition validates her relentless work ethic.

How Tournament Performance Rankings Work

Tournament Performance Rankings are built on a comprehensive evaluation model that goes beyond box scores. Each athlete is assessed using:

  • Pool play and bracket play performance
  • Net wins and overall team success
  • Individual production and in-game impact
  • Final team placement within the tournament

Using proprietary software and tested alongside college coaches to refine calculations, this system is designed to reflect how talent is evaluated at the next level.

The result is a credible, performance-based ranking system that enhances athlete visibility on a platform that has generated more than 14.4 million organic impressions over the past year—creating a valuable tool for college coaches tracking emerging talent across regions.

Partnerships Driving Growth

This initiative is already scaling rapidly, with more than 35 tournament rankings scheduled so far this season, spanning a wide range of events across multiple regions.

The growing footprint reflects both the demand for real-time player evaluation and the value this platform brings to athletes, coaches, and tournament directors alike.

Tournament directors interested in bringing this opportunity to their events are encouraged to participate. Complete this short interest form, and a member of our team will follow up.

The First Release Sets the Standard

This is more than a ranking. It is a shift toward recognizing athletes for what they do in real competition, under real pressure, against real opponents. Early adopters are already gaining visibility, and the number of participating tournaments continues to grow.

Athletes who perform are being seen. Programs that engage are gaining exposure. Coaches who follow these rankings are getting ahead of the curve.

And this is just the first one.

Extra Inning Softball extends its appreciation to Shawna Weaver of D1 Prospects for her collaboration and for providing access to multiple events where Tournament Performance Rankings are available.
