Two weeks into the softball season and softball fans have run the gamut of reactions. A great start to the season signals it’s time to buy tickets to the Women’s College World Series, while a slow start has fans wondering if their team will ever win again.
Week one of the season was dominated by the pitchers. Brianna Jones of Southern Illinois threw a perfect game, Kayla Beaver threw a no-hitter in her Alabama debut and Boston University’s Kasey Ricard and Allison Boaz each threw a no-hitter for the Terriers.
The hitters emerged in week two as Georgia defeated Florida State 20-10, Northwestern beat Georgia Tech 19-6 and South Carolina defeated San Diego 18-1.
Somewhere in the middle is where the truth lies. Great pitchers like NiJaree Canady of Stanford will continue to spin her magic while great hitters like Maya Brady of UCLA will continue to rack up the hits.
Fast starts, surprises, elite pitching, powerful bats and more are included in early observations from the softball season.
